ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Timeline of sustainable energy research 2020–present

Sustainable energy research is looking for ways to make energy sources (like electricity, heat and fuel) that are better for the environment. This means using resources that won't run out and will not harm the environment. In 2020 scientists and researchers around the world started to work on testing and researching new ways to make energy from both renewable sources (sources that will never run out, like the sun and wind) and non-renewable sources (sources that will eventually run out, like petroleum). This research includes things like finding better ways to capture power from solar, wind and water sources and how to store this energy so it can be used when it is needed. By the end of 2020, research started to focus on finding more efficient ways to use existing energy sources and creating new energy sources that are more sustainable.

In 2021, more research has been done on sustainable energy sources, with success stories in many areas. For example, scientists have created ways to capture and store more energy from the sun and wind, and also new technologies that can turn common household waste into usable energy. Scientists have also created new ways to use existing energy sources more efficiently, such as producing new fuels out of the exhaust produced by cars.

This research continues into present and future, with the goal of continuing to find more efficient and sustainable sources of energy while making sure that all of the new technology is safe and environmentally friendly. With the advances made so far, there is hope that the world can move towards an energy system that is better for us and for the planet.
