ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ton (volume)

Okay kiddo, so you know how when you pour some juice into a glass, the glass can only hold a certain amount of juice? That amount is called the volume of the glass.

Now imagine if we had a bigger container like a barrel that could hold a lot more juice than the glass. That means the barrel has a bigger volume than the glass.

In the same way, a ton is a way to measure the volume of really heavy things like big rocks or loads of food. But instead of measuring it in liters or gallons like we do with juice, we measure it in tons.

So when we say something is a ton, we mean it's a really big amount of something that would take up a lot of space if we could see it all together. And just like with the glass and the barrel, if we had something even bigger than a ton, we would have to use a different word to describe its volume.
