Torpor

Torpor is when an animal's body gets very still and calm and its heart rate, breathing, and other body functions slow down. It's sort of like hibernation, but not as deep. Animals get into torpor so they can save energy when food is scarce, like during a cold winter. Some animals enter into torpor for a day or two, while others can stay in torpor for weeks at a time!
