ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Transgenerational trauma

Transgenerational trauma is when trauma is passed down from one generation to the next. It can happen in families when family members have been through something terrible, like a war or natural disaster, and their children and their children's children may experience the same feelings of fear and sadness even though they were not personally affected by the event. Just like you can pass down a family recipe or tradition, you can pass down mental and emotional pain from one generation to the next.
