ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Trifunctional hypothesis

The trifunctional hypothesis is an idea about how ancient societies were structured. It is named for three roles that people had – rulers, warriors, and farmers. Rulers were people who made the rules and decisions for their society. Warriors were people who protected the land and fought in battles. Farmers were people who worked the land and grew crops for food. All three roles were important for the people to have a strong and successful society.
