ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Vocabulary acquisition

When we are babies, we start learning words by listening to the people around us talk. We hear words over and over again and eventually begin to understand what they mean. As we grow older, we start saying words ourselves and learning new words every day.

One of the best ways to learn new words is by reading books or listening to someone who talks a lot. When we see or hear a new word, our brain tries to figure out what it means. Sometimes we can guess based on the context of the sentence, but sometimes we have to look it up in a dictionary.

The more words we know, the better we can communicate with others and understand what they are saying. Vocabulary acquisition is the process of learning and adding new words to our vocabulary. It can be a lifelong process and it's important to keep learning new words every day.
