Ward of the state

Okay kiddo, do you know what a ward is? It's when someone is taking care of another person like a parent takes care of a baby.

Now, sometimes there are children who don't have parents or their parents can't take care of them. In those cases, the government takes the responsibility of taking care of them.

When the government takes care of these children, they become what is called a "ward of the state". This means that the government is responsible for their welfare and will make sure they have a safe place to live, food to eat, and go to school. Sometimes, they might even stay in a foster family’s home and get taken care of by a new set of parents.

It's really important for wards of the state to be looked after carefully because they are vulnerable and may not have anyone to care for them. By becoming a ward of the state, they can get the help they need to grow into healthy and strong adults.
