ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Water level

Water level is like a bathtub. When you turn the water on, the bathtub starts to fill up. The water level is how high the water gets in the bathtub.

The same thing happens with lakes, rivers, and other bodies of water. When it rains or when snow melts, water flows into the lake or river and the water level goes up. When it stops raining or snowing, the water level goes down because the water has nowhere else to go.

Water level is important because it can affect a lot of things like how much water people have to use, how plants and animals can survive, and even how boats can move in the water. It's important to keep track of water level to make sure there is enough water for everyone and everything that needs it.
