Sea level

Sea level is the level of the water in the ocean. Imagine you are playing in the tub and you fill it all the way up with water. The water you see near the top of the tub is like the level of the ocean. When we talk about sea level, we are talking about how high or low the level of the ocean is compared to the land around it.

Sometimes the level of the ocean goes up, and sometimes it goes down. This happens mostly because of the weather. When it is really hot outside, the water in the ocean gets warmer and starts to expand, or take up more space. This makes the level of the ocean go up. When it is cold outside and the water is cooler, it takes up less space and the level of the ocean goes down.

Another reason the sea level can change is because of ice. When ice melts from glaciers, it adds more water to the ocean, making the level of the ocean go up. When it is really cold, more ice can form on the land, which means less water in the ocean and the level goes down.

Overall, the level of the ocean is always changing because of different things like temperature and ice, but we keep track of it to help us know more about our planet and how it is changing over time.
