ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Whistled fricative

Okay kiddo, so sometimes when we talk, we make sounds that are like a hiss or a whistle. That's called a fricative sound.

Now, imagine if instead of making that sound with our mouth, we made it by whistling with our lips. That's called a whistled fricative.

It's kind of like if you were pretending to be a bird and made a whistle noise through your teeth - that's a whistled fricative!
