ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Wikitext

Wikicode, also known as wikitext, is a special code language that people use on Wikipedia and many other wikis to make articles and pages look nice and organized. It’s a bit like a secret language that only people who know how to use it can read and understand.

When you write something in wikitext, you use different symbols and commands to tell the computer what you want your article or page to look like. For example, you might use “==” to make a big heading, or “*” to make a bullet point list.

Wikitext can be a bit tricky to learn at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s a really powerful tool for making great content. It’s also really important for anyone who wants to edit Wikipedia or other wikis, since you need to know wikitext to make changes to existing content or create new pages.

Although it may seem complicated, wikitext is actually a lot of fun to learn and can really help you take your writing and editing skills to the next level!
