ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Xenoestrogen

Ok kiddo, so you know how sometimes there are things around us that can act like hormones? These things are called xenoestrogens.

Hormones are like little helpers in our body that help us grow and develop. Estrogen is a special hormone that is mostly found in girls and helps them become women when they grow up.

But sometimes there are things in the environment that can act like estrogen, even if they are not supposed to be there. These are xenoestrogens.

For example, some chemicals in plastic or pesticides can act like estrogen in our bodies. This can make it harder for our real hormones to do their job properly, which can cause health problems.

That's why it's important to try to avoid exposure to xenoestrogens as much as we can, so our bodies can work the way they are supposed to.
