ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Abyssinia Crisis

Once upon a time, a long time ago in the 1930s, there was a big problem called the Abyssinia Crisis. Abyssinia was a country in Africa where people lived, just like in other countries. But there was a man named Mussolini who was the leader of a big country called Italy who wanted to take over Abyssinia.

This was very unfair because Abyssinia was a small and weak country, and Italy was a strong and big country. The people in Abyssinia did not want Italy to take over their country because they wanted to be free and independent.

So, many important countries in the world, called the League of Nations, tried to help Abyssinia and stop Italy from taking over. These countries tried to talk to Italy and tell them that they were doing something wrong, just like when you talk to your friend when they do something wrong.

But Italy did not listen and said they were going to take over Abyssinia no matter what anyone said. This made all the other countries very upset and they tried to do more things to stop Italy. Some countries even stopped trading with Italy to show how unhappy they were.

Finally, after a long time, Italy invaded Abyssinia and took over the country. Many people were very sad and disappointed that they couldn't stop Italy from doing something so mean. But they did learn that it's important for countries to work together and talk to each other to solve problems, just like when friends talk to each other to solve problems.
