Advection

Advection is like something moving in the wind. For example, imagine you're outside on a windy day. If you throw a leaf into the air, the wind will carry it along, and it will travel in the same direction that the wind is blowing. This is called "advection". The wind is carrying the leaf away from where you threw it, and so it's said to be advecting the leaf.
