ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Amendment

Ok kiddo, imagine you have a rule that says you can't eat ice cream before dinner. But one day you realize that it's your birthday and you want to have ice cream as a special treat. So, you ask your parents to change the rule just for that day. That's kind of like what an amendment is.

In the grown-up world, an amendment is a change that is made to a law or document, like the Constitution. It's like fixing a mistake or adding something new. Just like how your parents can change the ice cream rule for your birthday, the people in charge of making laws and rules in our country can change the rules that they made before if they need to.

And just like you might have to get your parents' permission to have ice cream before dinner, changing a law or rule isn't always easy. There are certain steps that need to be taken to make sure everyone agrees on the change. But in the end, if everything goes smoothly, the rule or law will be updated and everyone will have to follow the new version.
