Appeal to authority

Appeal to authority is when someone tries to prove that something is true because a famous or important person said it. For example, if someone said "My teacher said coffee keeps you awake, so it must be true", they would be using appeal to authority. Even if the teacher is an expert on coffee, their opinion does not mean that it is true for everyone, so it is important to consider other points of view.
