Asteroid-impact avoidance

Asteroids are huge space rocks that float around in space. Sometimes, they can hurtle towards Earth and if they collide with our planet, they can cause a lot of damage. This is why scientists work hard to make sure that asteroid-impact doesn't happen.

To prevent this from happening, scientists have devised several ways to avoid asteroid impacts. One way is to detect these asteroids early. This means that scientists track the asteroids in space and measure their size and trajectory. By doing this, they can predict whether the asteroid will collide with Earth or not.

If an asteroid is predicted to collide with Earth, scientists come up with a plan to deflect it. one way is to use something called a "gravity tractor". This is a spacecraft that is sent to fly near the asteroid. Its gravity creates a force that can pull the asteroid away from its collision course.

Another way is by sending a spacecraft to crash into the asteroid. This may sound strange, but by doing this, the asteroid will be deflected from its original path. This method is called the "kinetic impactor".

Scientists work very hard to make sure that these methods are as safe as possible. This is because asteroids are unpredictable and can cause a lot of damage if they collide with Earth.
