Buddhism in Afghanistan

Buddhism is a religion that started a long time ago in a place called India. People who follow Buddhism believe in something called "the Four Noble Truths" and "the Eightfold Path." They also often meditate, which means they sit quietly and think.

In Afghanistan, a long, long time ago, many people also followed Buddhism. They built big statues and temples to worship, and they studied important books to learn more about their religion.

But later, a different religion called Islam became more popular in Afghanistan. Some people who followed Islam didn't like the Buddhists because they believed different things. So they destroyed some of the Buddhist statues and temples.

Now, there are very few Buddhist people in Afghanistan. But some of the old temples and statues are still there, and people can visit them to learn about the history of Buddhism in the country.
