ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Cake number

Okay kiddo, let's imagine you have a big cake all to yourself. Yum! But now your friends want to have some too. So you have to share it with them. But you want to make sure everyone gets a fair amount of cake.

That's where the cake number comes in. The cake number tells you how many cuts you need to make in the cake to divide it into equal pieces for everyone.

For example, if you have 8 friends and you want to divide the cake into 9 equal pieces (so everyone gets a piece and there's one leftover), you would need to make 8 cuts in the cake. That's because each cut will create a new piece, and you need 8 cuts to make 9 pieces in total.

The cake number is important because it helps you make sure everyone gets a fair share of cake. Plus, it's also kind of fun to figure out how many cuts you need to make. Just be careful with that knife!
