Cantilever

Okay, here's an explanation of a cantilever.

A cantilever is like a diving board that sticks out from the side of the swimming pool. You can stand on the end that's hanging out, and it doesn't fall down because it's supported by a strong beam or pole that's connected to the ground on the other end.

Imagine if you're playing with a toy car and you stick a pencil out from the edge of a table. If you put the car on the end of the pencil and push it, the pencil might bend or even break because it's not strong enough to hold up the weight of the car.

But if you attach a strong stick or ruler to the end of the pencil and rest the other end on the table, you've made a cantilever! Now you can put the car on the end of the ruler and push it, and it won't bend or break because the ruler is supporting it.

In the real world, engineers use cantilevers to create structures that can hang out over empty spaces, like bridges or balconies. The cantilever helps support the weight of the structure and keeps it from falling down.
