ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Covert operations

Covert operations are like whispering secrets to your friend. You want to do something secretly and not let others know what you are doing. Just like you don't want others to hear what you tell your friend.

It happens when grown-ups, like spies, soldiers, or policemen, do things secretly. Sometimes, they need to do things that other people may not agree with, or some may not like what they are doing. This is why they need to keep it a secret from everyone else.

These are usually planned, where a group of people discuss and plan what they will do secretly. It may include sneaking into places or trying to get information without anyone knowing. They try to make sure no one finds out by not telling anyone outside their group.

But just like whispering secrets, sometimes, the secret may get out. Someone may overhear or find out what they are doing. This can cause problems, and sometimes it can be dangerous. This is why covert operations are only done by people who are very careful and know how to keep secrets.
