ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

DNA replication

DNA replication is like making a photocopy of something. DNA stands for Deoxyribonucleic acid, and it's like a set of instructions inside almost every cell inside your body. It tells your body how to look and how to function. Replication means to make a copy of something.

When it comes to DNA replication, it means making a copy of the instructions inside the cells. Your body does this so it can make new cells and keep things running smoothly. To make a copy of the instructions, it starts off by unwinding the two sides of the instructions (like unrolling a scroll). Then, it uses special molecules called enzymes to copy each side over. Finally, it winds up the instructions again - it's like making two photocopies from one original.
