ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Dalit

Okay kiddo, so Dalit is a word that is used in India to describe people who are from the lowest of the low castes. Just like some people are born with different skin colors, in India people are born into different castes. The higher castes have more money, power, and respect but the lowest caste is called the Dalit, and they are often treated very badly.

Being a Dalit means that people can discriminate against you because of who your parents were, and you might not have the same chances as other people. This is not fair and there are people who are working hard to change this, but it is still a big problem in India. So, it's important to treat everyone with kindness and respect, no matter what their caste or background is.
