ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Deep packet inspection

Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) is like opening up each package that goes along your computer's delivery route. Instead of just checking the address of the package to make sure it's going to the right place, DPI looks inside and checks what is inside of it. The information inside the package is like a look-see into what you are doing on your computer; things like what websites you are visiting, what type of files you are sending, and what type of programs you are using. DPI helps your computer's deliveryman make sure the right information is going to the right place at the right time.
