ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Deviance (sociology)

Deviance is something that an individual does that is considered to be different or wrong by others in the society. It can either be a physical action (like stealing) or something people say or think (like thinking something is OK that other people might find wrong). People who break the rules of society are considered deviant. Sometimes, people use deviance to cause problems or confusion, but it can also be a way to draw attention to issues and bring about positive change.
