The economy of the Soviet Union was the way that people of the Soviet Union produced, worked, and traded goods and services. It included the farming, mining, manufacturing and other kinds of work people did, and the things they made and sold to each other. People in the Soviet Union used a system called Communism, which basically means the government controlled most of the economy. Everyone was paid the same amount of money for their work, and the government provided free education, health care and other services. People in the Soviet Union had to use what was called the “Ruble”, which was their special currency. They were not able to buy things from other countries, and had to get what they needed from within the Soviet Union.
