ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Eskrima

Eskrima is a type of martial art that usually comes from the Philippines. It teaches you how to use sticks or other types of long objects to defend yourself or attack an opponent. Think of it like playing with toy swords or pretending to be a superhero with a long stick. But in eskrima, you learn how to do it the right way, with rules and safety precautions.

When you learn eskrima, you start by holding the sticks in a certain way to protect yourself from getting hit. You also learn how to move your body in a certain way to dodge attacks and how to swing the sticks to hit your opponent. But don't worry, because you always do it with a partner who is also learning, and you wear protective gear, so no one gets hurt.

As you get better in eskrima, you can also learn how to do it without the sticks and use your hands and feet instead, like in karate or other martial arts. But the cool thing about eskrima is that you always learn how to use a weapon first, which can give you an advantage if you ever need to defend yourself in real life.
