ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Exit, Voice, and Loyalty

Okay, kiddo, have you ever been part of a group, like a sports team or a club at school? Sometimes, when things aren't going well, you might have a few different choices of what to do.

One choice is to leave the group, which we call "exit." This means you don't want to be part of the group anymore because you don't like how things are going. Maybe the team never wins, or the club isn't doing things you're interested in.

Another choice is to speak up and try to change things in the group. This is called "voice." You might tell the coach or leader what you think they could do differently to make things better. This way, you're staying in the group but trying to make it better.

A third choice is to just stick around, even if things aren't great. This is called "loyalty." You might not like everything that's happening in the group, but you feel like it's important to stay because you care about the other people or because you've been in the group for a long time.

These three choices, exit, voice, and loyalty, are ways that people can handle problems in groups they're part of. Sometimes one choice is the best, and sometimes another one is. It's up to you to decide which one you think is the right one!
