Expansionism

Expansionism is when a country takes over and controls more land. It often happens when a country is trying to grow bigger, so it takes over land from other countries or from places that don't have their own government. Expansionism usually involves a lot of fighting and often the people who lived on the land they took over don't have power in the new government.
