ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Fiat money

Fiat money is money that has worth because the government says it does. It comes in coins and paper money that you can use to buy things. It is different from things like gold or silver, because those things have natural value, but fiat money doesn't. Instead the government decides how much each coin or piece of paper is worth, and then people can use it to pay for things.
