ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

File descriptions

Imagine you have a toy box filled with different toys - a teddy bear, a ball, a toy car, and a puzzle. Each toy is different and has its own characteristics. Similarly, files are like toys stored in a computer.

Just like how you can easily identify your toy car by its color or shape, your computer can identify files stored on it by their descriptions. These descriptions can tell you important information about the file, like what type of file it is, when it was created or modified, and who created it.

For example, imagine you have a picture saved on your computer. The file description might tell you that it is a JPEG file type, created on a specific date and time, and perhaps who created it. This information helps you easily identify and remember what the file is and when it was created, even if you have lots of other files on your computer.

In summary, file descriptions are like labels on a toy box, they help you easily find and identify different files on your computer by providing important information about them.
