Hi there! Do you know what hurdles are? Hurdles are things you have to jump over to complete a race. Similarly, in our mental race to be content and peaceful, there are five hurdles or hindrances we have to jump over.
One hurdle is called sensual desire. It means wanting things that we think will make us happy, like candy, toys, or even more screen time. But too much of these things can make us feel unhappy and restless.
The second hurdle is called ill-will. That means feeling upset or angry towards someone or something. Holding grudges or feeling bitter can make us feel uncomfortable and prevent us from being happy.
The third hurdle is called sloth and torpor. It means feeling lazy or sleepy and not wanting to do anything. Spending too much time sleeping or not doing anything can make us feel bored and uninterested.
The fourth hurdle is restlessness and worry. It means feeling anxious or nervous about something. Thinking too much or worrying about things can make it hard to focus and be calm.
The fifth and final hurdle is called doubt. Doubt means not being sure about something or not having enough faith in ourselves or others. Doubting too much can prevent us from believing in ourselves and enjoying life.
So, these five hurdles, or hindrances, can get in the way of being happy and peaceful. But with practice, we can learn to jump over them and stay content and calm.
