Alright kiddo, so a long time ago in a country called Italy, there were a group of people called the Slovenes, Croats, and Italians living in a place called Istria.
Unfortunately, during World War II, there was a lot of fighting going on between different groups of people. And after the war, some Italian soldiers and civilians were very angry that the war didn't go the way they wanted it to go.
So they began to attack and kill the Slovenes and Croats who lived in Istria. These attacks and killings are called the Foibe massacres because the Italian soldiers and civilians would throw the bodies of the people they killed in holes in the ground called "foibe."
It was a really sad and scary time for the people who lived in Istria. Many people were forced to leave their homes and flee to places where they would be safe.
It's important to remember and talk about these events so that we can learn from the past and make sure that something like this never happens again.
