ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Food addiction

Food addiction means that some people feel like they can't stop themselves from eating, even when they're not hungry or when they know the food is bad for them. It's like when you get really into playing with your toy and you just can't put it down, even when it's time to do something else.

When we eat food, our brain releases chemicals that make us feel good. For some people, this good feeling can become addictive, just like how some people can get addicted to video games or toys.

But unlike toys, we need food to survive. So when someone is addicted to food, they can't just stop eating altogether. They have to figure out how to eat in a healthier way so that they're not hurting their body. This might mean talking to a doctor or therapist to get help.

It's important to remember that food addiction is a real problem and it's not a person's fault if they struggle with it. We should try to be understanding and supportive of people who are working on overcoming this addiction.
