Fourier number

Fourier numbers are a way of counting how many pieces a shape can be broken into. It is named after the mathematician Jean-Baptiste Fourier.
Think of a shape like a jigsaw puzzle. To figure out how many pieces it is made of, you can count the number of edges and corners it has. This is called the Fourier number.
