ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Frequency domain

Hey there kiddo! So you know how we hear different sounds like a loud truck or a soft bird chirping? Well, these sounds have different frequencies, which means they vibrate at different speeds.

Now imagine we have a picture of a sound wave, which shows us how the sound vibrates over time. The frequency domain is kind of like taking that picture and turning it sideways. Instead of looking at how the sound changes over time, we're looking at how much of each frequency there is in the sound.

It's like a recipe! Just like how a recipe tells you how much of each ingredient you need to make something yummy, the frequency domain tells you how much of each frequency there is in a sound. And just like how sometimes you need more sugar or more salt in a recipe to make it taste better, sometimes we might want to adjust the frequencies in a sound for things like music or movies so they sound just right to our ears.

So, the frequency domain is like taking a sound and breaking it down into its different frequency components, kind of like how we might break down a recipe into its different ingredients to make something delicious!
