Fusor (astronomy)

Okay kiddo, have you heard about fusion? It's when two things come together and make a bigger thing. Like when you put two Lego blocks together. Well, a fusor does that too, but with a special kind of fusion called nuclear fusion.

So, there's this thing called a star, and it's made up of a bunch of gas and dust. The star is so big and has so much gravity that it pulls all that gas and dust together really tightly. The pressure in the middle of the star is so intense that it makes atoms stick together, and that's called nuclear fusion. This is how a star gets its energy - by creating light and heat from the fusion of atoms.

Now, a fusor is a machine that people make to do the same thing, but on a smaller scale. The machine has two metal grids, one inside the other. The grids are separated by a small space and are connected to a power source. When the power is turned on, it creates an electric field that pushes charged particles towards each other in the middle.

The charged particles are called ions, and they come from a gas that's inside the machine. When the ions come together in the middle, they can stick together and make a bigger atom, just like in a star. This releases a lot of energy in the form of heat and light.

Scientists use fusors to study nuclear fusion and try to find ways to make it happen on Earth so we can have a cleaner and more abundant source of energy. But, it's not easy to do, and we're still working on figuring it out.
