Gender pay gap

Hello! Do you know what a pay gap is? It's when someone gets paid more or less than someone else for doing the same job.

Now there's something called a "gender pay gap" which means that on average, women get paid less than men for doing the same job.

But why is that? Well, sometimes it's because women might not get the same opportunities as men to get higher-paying jobs. For example, if a job requires a lot of physical strength, women might not get hired as often as men because people might think women are not as strong as men.

Another reason for the gender pay gap is that women might not ask for pay raises as much as men do. Maybe they're too shy, or they don't know that they can ask for a raise. And some people might not think it's fair to give women the same pay as men because they think women might not work as hard or that they might take too much time off work to have babies. But that's not true! Women work really hard, and they should be paid the same as men for doing the same job.

There are some people who are working really hard to make sure that the gender pay gap gets smaller and smaller. They're trying to make sure that women get hired for the same jobs as men, and that they get paid the same amount too.
