Haitian Revolution

The Haitian Revolution was a revolution in the Caribbean island of Haiti. It started in 1791 and lasted until 1804. During that time, the people of Haiti - who had been enslaved by the French - fought against French military forces and won their freedom. This freed them from slavery and made them the first black independent nation in the world. The people of Haiti achieved this incredible accomplishment by fighting bravely and forming alliances with other countries such as the United States, France, and Britain.
