Harmonic minor scale

Okay kiddo, so you know how there are different scales in music? Well, the harmonic minor scale is one of them.

It’s a special kind of scale and it has a unique pattern of notes that sound a little bit different than other scales.

Let’s say you start on the note A and go up a certain pattern of notes: A, B, C, D, E, F, G#, A. That’s one octave of the A harmonic minor scale!

Now, what makes this scale really special is that we change just one note from another scale you might know, called the natural minor scale. In the natural minor scale, when you go up from A, you play G instead of G#.

But in the harmonic minor, we use a G# instead. This creates a special sound that musicians like to use to make music sound different and interesting.

So there you go, kiddo. The harmonic minor scale is a special kind of scale that has a unique pattern of notes and sounds different because we use a special note called G# instead of G in the natural minor scale.
