Now, Melchizedek was a king and a priest. And the person writing Hebrews is trying to explain why Melchizedek was really important.
You see, back in the olden days, priests would make sacrifices for the people to make up for their sins. But Melchizedek was different because he didn't have to make sacrifices for himself first before he made sacrifices for the people.
And the person writing Hebrews is saying that Jesus is also like Melchizedek because he doesn't need to make sacrifices for himself first either. Jesus can just take away our sins directly.
So, the point of Hebrews 7 is to show how Melchizedek was an important person in the past and how Jesus is like him in the present.
