ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Historical race concepts

Hello there! Today, we are going to talk about something called "historical race concepts" in a way that a five-year-old can understand.

Have you ever heard someone say "I am Black" or "I am White?" Well, in the past, people used to think that these things called "race," or the idea that people with different skin colors were different types of people. This is called a "historical race concept."

But here's the thing: the idea that people who look different than us are less than us or worse than us is completely wrong. All people are important, no matter what they look like or where they're from.

Historically, some people believed that people with light skin were smarter or better than people with darker skin. But we know now that this is just not true! Every person is unique and special, no matter what their skin color is.

Today, people are fighting against racism and trying to make the world a better place for everyone, no matter what they look like. That's what's really important!
