ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Homosexuality and Judaism

Okay, kiddo, so you know how some boys and girls like each other and want to get married someday? Well, sometimes, some boys like other boys, and some girls like other girls, and they also want to be together and get married. That's called being homosexual or gay.

Now, religion is when people believe in something special and follow some rules. One of those religions is Judaism, which has some rules about how people should live and love each other.

In the past, some Jewish people thought that being gay wasn't okay and that it went against their religion. They believed that the Jewish holy book, called the Torah, said that being gay was wrong.

But now, some Jewish people believe that being gay is okay, and they welcome gay people into their community. They say that the Torah doesn't explicitly say that being gay is wrong, and that the message of Judaism is to love and respect others, regardless of who they are.

So, in some Jewish communities, gay people are accepted and treated like everyone else. They can love who they want and be proud of who they are, just like anyone else.
