Hubbert's Peak is named after the geologist Marvin Hubbert. He developed a method of predicting how much oil is left in the ground in a certain area. He said that anyplace with a large amount of oil would have a peak or point at which half of the oil would have been used or taken out of the ground. After that point, the amount of oil left will decrease until it is all gone. This means that once the peak has passed, it will be harder and harder to get oil out of the ground. This can be bad news because it means oil might become more expensive or harder to find.
