Hybrid grape

A hybrid grape is a special kind of grape that is made by taking two different types of grapes and putting them together. Think of it like if your mommy and daddy were both different types of people, and when they had a baby (you!), you had traits from both of them.

So, when grape growers want to make a new kind of grape that has special traits, they pick two different kinds of grapes and put them together. This is called crossbreeding. They use the pollen from one grape to fertilize the flower of another grape, and then a new grape grows with traits from both of the parent grapes.

Hybrid grapes can be made to have different qualities that are good for wine, like being resistant to certain diseases, having a certain flavor or color, or being able to grow well in a certain climate. Some popular hybrid grapes include the Chambourcin, Vignoles, and Traminette.
