ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Imaging spectrometer

An imaging spectrometer is a fancy camera that can take pictures of things and tell us what colors they are made of. Just like how you see different colors of things around you, the imaging spectrometer can reveal the colors of things that are too small or far away for us to see with our eyes. It works by taking a picture of a wide range of colors, and then breaking up the light from each pixel into lots of different parts, called spectra. These spectra show us how much of each color is present in each pixel, which can help scientists learn about the materials and chemicals in the picture. Imagine it like a magic eye that can help us see things we can't normally see!
