Informed consent

Informed consent is like agreeing to something you understand. When you are asked to give informed consent, it means that you are being asked to agree to something, but first you must make sure you fully understand what is happening. To do this, you will be told all of the details about something (like a medical procedure) so that you can decide if you feel comfortable with it or not. If you do, you can give your permission (by signing a permission form or saying yes) and then the medical procedure can happen. It is important that you understand fully before you give your permission so that you are comfortable with what is happening.
