ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Inverted totalitarianism

Inverted totalitarianism is a type of government where the people are kept in control, but it looks like freedom. It means that there are rules and laws that limit what people can do, but they don't seem to be oppressive or controlling. For example, people may be allowed to criticize the government, but the criticism won't change anything because the government has all the power. Even though it looks like people are free, the government is really in charge.
