John the Baptist

John the Baptist was a man who was very important in the time when Jesus lived. He was a messenger who told people that they needed to change their ways and be ready for the coming of Jesus. He lived in the desert and ate honey and locusts, which are bugs that he would catch and eat.

John the Baptist would baptize people in the river. Baptism is when a person goes underwater to show that they are sorry for their bad things they did and they want to start doing better. John would baptize many people, including Jesus, who he said was very special and would do great things.

John the Baptist was a brave man who was not afraid to tell powerful people, like the king, that they needed to be better and follow God's ways. He even went to jail because of what he said.
