Kerosene

Kerosene is a kind of fuel that we use to make things like lamps and stoves work. It looks like a clear liquid and is often used in places where there are no electric lights or gas stoves.

The fuel is made from a natural resource called petroleum, which is found deep underground. Petroleum is made up of different types of things that come from dead plants and animals that have been underground for millions of years.

To make kerosene, people will take the petroleum and use a process called distillation where they heat it up and separate it into different parts. The part that becomes kerosene is one of those parts.

In the past, people used to use kerosene lamps to light up their houses. They would fill the lamp with kerosene and then light a wick, which would soak up the fuel and burn, creating a flame that gave off light.

Today, we still use kerosene for things like camping stoves or heaters, but it's not as common as it used to be because now we have access to electricity and gas. Nonetheless, in some places around the world, people still rely on it as their primary source of fuel.
